Small Ways to Change the World

Small Ways to Change the World

Changing the world seems like one of those impossible, huge things that no man can possibly achieve. While you may not be able to do it all, you have the power to at least make a difference with simple, small actions. Small acts can have surprisingly large consequences. Through small actions, you can change world and make it a better, more positive place.

Respect People and the Earth
Random, small acts of kindness – like holding the door open for someone or smiling at a stranger – can be a great way to make a social change impact. Sometimes these small actions to respect people and show them kindness start a ripple effect that can spread far and beyond. You can show the same respect and kindness to our planet as well. Simple actions like recycling your trash, shopping sensibly, planting a tree, reducing food waste, etc. are all excellent ways to promote sustainability in the present and the future.

Be a Volunteer
You don’t have to start a new organization in order to make a positive impact. Instead, you can volunteer with an organization that is working to make the world a better place. By volunteering your time, you can help them continue offering the services the communities rely on. The best thing about volunteering is that it doesn’t require any specific skillset. An organization might need help handing out materials, tutoring children, or serving meals. While these are all simple acts, they can have a significant impact on the community and the world in general.

Do Something for an Elderly Person
Elderly individuals and seniors are at high risk of isolation and depression as they often live away from their families and have lost many family members and friends. You have the ability to bring a smile to their faces, which combats all of that. It is simple: sit and talk to an elderly person that you might encounter, ask them if they need help, hold a door for them, etc. If it’s a neighbor, make a friendly visit or offer them to get their mail for them every day. Just being aware of an elderly person who lives nearby or who you pass on the store or street and acknowledging them can really make a difference.

Be There for a Child
Build at least one caring and informal relationship with a child and try to be a positive role model for them. Take the time to listen to them – even if they don’t seem interested in talking about how they feel or what they are going through. The fact that you are there for them will leave a great positive impact. Whether they appreciate this or not, they will thank you later for showing respect and love in such a tangible way.
These are just a few of the many things you can do to change the world. Never underestimate your potential to do good.
